Check on line to see what classes are offered and then call ahead to see if you can try the class either for a nominal daily fee or potentially for free. Many fitness centers/clubs are open to this as it may lead to a membership. If you are in the downtown area on Fridays you should try the "WOW" class being offered by the YWCA. It is a 40 min weight training class over lunch. WOW stands for Women on Weights. It was WOW and completely kicked me in the behind! It was fun to do something different.

Thank goodness my husband is into this as he is a great encourager. We have both been tracking our food intake from the beginning and looking at our calorie expenditure in terms of daily activity. Having accountability is critical to our success--we have lost 18 pounds total. It is also cool to be part of an entire community working towards being healthier. I was amazed to see we all have lost nearly 4000 pounds!! How cool is that!

I will be soing some of these things for sure. I picked up an issue of Cooking Light and found LOTS of great recipes and most were very easy. For a quick snack try a Fiber One bar--they are reasonable in terms of calories and you can have a little chocolate or caramel. Best thing of all--9 grams of fiber!

For example, when making lasagna use fat free cottage cheese instead of ricotta cheese. Use reduced fat mozzarella cheese, and use less of that and more fat free cottage cheese. Also, use 90/10 ground beef or substitute ground turkey for the beef. Or try spinach and tofu instead of beef. Also, try reduced sodium tomato sauce. Use fewer noodles and try substituting whole wheat noodles. Skip the garlic bread, or simply put garlic on a piece of toast. Sarah Lee has a great bread – Sarah Lee Delightful Whole Wheat with Honey. It only has 45 calories per slice, plus all the great nutrition of whole grain. Pop it in the toaster, throw some garlic on it, and skip the butter!! Hope this helps. On another note, when I bake I substitute unsweetened applesauce for butter or margarine. If the recipe calls for 2 sticks butter simply use 1 cup applesauce instead. I do this for cookies, brownies, cakes, and breads. It still tastes great!! But remember, don't eat the whole thing, just because it's better for you!! I think portion control is really the key to weight loss. Hope this helps!!
